Using Data to Drive Instructional Practices

Dr. Kilpatrick focuses on leveraging data to enhance teaching effectiveness. Designed for educators, it outlines a four-step process—Assess, Analyze, Act, and Build Culture—based on the research of Paul Bambrick-Santoyo. Dr. Kilpatrick created a data analysis tool that can be used for all grade bands and subject areas to address student learning needs.  In this presentation participants learned how to evaluate student data, identify areas of struggle, create targeted reteaching plans, and foster a data-driven culture within their schools. The goal is to equip teachers with actionable strategies to improve student outcomes through rigorous and informed instructional practices.

Cahn Distinguished Principals Fellowship

This presentation, created for the Cahn Fellowship, showcases the efforts of Dr. Joi C. Kilpatrick and her ally Jahmal Fagan in improving educational outcomes at William M. Boyd Elementary School in Atlanta. Titled "Closing the Gaps and Driving Instruction," the presentation outlines their use of strategic data assessment and community-building techniques to address significant learning gaps in a Title I school. By internalizing data and fostering a positive, joyful learning environment, they implemented targeted instructional changes to help students succeed. The presentation highlights their theory of practice, use of community circles, and continuous reflection to create a culture of achievement and engagement, despite the challenges of a disadvantaged student population.
